My Story
My name is Dagmawit Alemayehu, and my life has been intricately woven into the fabric of textiles since childhood. Growing up in Ethiopia, I was immersed in a world where threads came together to tell stories—stories of heritage, craftsmanship, and creativity. My parents ran a successful textiles business, blending the traditional with the contemporary, and I often found myself amidst vibrant fabrics, learning the nuances of garment making. It was in those early days that I discovered my profound passion for clothing and fashion design, a passion that would shape my future. As I ventured into the UK, I took a significant step toward realizing my dreams by completing a three-year Fashion Design course at the University of South Wales. This experience expanded my understanding of design, pushing me to explore my creativity within a structured framework. My journey did not stop there; I channelled my artistic expression into creating my own website, (http://konjofashion.com/), (http://konjofashion.co.uk/)where I showcase my designs and share my vision with the world. I also lend my skills to Curios, a charming shop in Cardiff City Centre, where I perform alterations several days a week. This hands-on experience has not only honed my technical abilities but has also deepened my understanding of customer needs—an essential component for any fashion designer. In my work, I am passionate about sustainable fashion, a movement that resonates with my values. I believe in creating clothing that respects both the environment and the people who inhabit it. By utilizing eco-friendly materials, ethical manufacturing processes, and promoting conscious consumer choices, I aspire to contribute to an industry that prioritizes responsibility and integrity. As I stand at the cusp of my career, my ultimate aim is to explore and find my place within the fashion industry. I am hopeful that my journey will lead to opportunities that enable me to create a better life for myself while making a meaningful impact through my designs. Initially launched as a women's fashion destination, Konjo Fashion has since grown to cater to a broader audience, offering trendy, comfortable, and affordable clothing for both men and women. Our goal is to understand our customers' needs through honest communication and provide a unique shopping experience.
My journey into fashion began in Ethiopia, where I grew up surrounded by textiles. My Ethiopian heritage and early exposure to garment-making fostered my deep love for fashion and design.
I would describe myself as organized and adaptable, with a diverse skill set developed through various roles in hospitality, manufacturing, and the voluntary sector. My eagerness to learn keeps me open to new challenges, and I’m always working to refine my craft.
Konjo means "beautiful" in Amharic, my native Ethiopian language, and that's exactly what we offer—beautiful, distinctive pieces that help young men and women express their unique style. Our collection provides confidence, affordable fashion, and, most importantly, comfort.
At Konjo Fashion, I communicate directly with customers through social media and am always striving to evolve my brand by conducting consumer research. We offer both manufactured and bespoke African clothing, tailored for people of African heritage living in the UK, allowing them to celebrate their culture through stylish, high-quality garments.
